About this program

The online Master of Arts in Teaching at Pepperdine University prepares aspiring educators to become confident and effective classroom leaders. The program combines educational theory with practical teaching experience to support professional development and teaching excellence. Students engage in a collaborative cohort model that encourages strong peer networks and professional support throughout the program and after graduation.

Curriculum overview

The 30-credit curriculum integrates academic study with practical teaching experience. Students explore core areas such as learning development, instructional design, pedagogical theory, and educational technology.

The program includes:

  • Six core courses
  • Two specialization courses
  • Three clinical experience rotations

Students may choose between two teaching credential pathways:

  • Elementary Teaching (Multiple Subject)
  • Secondary Teaching (Single Subject)

Clinical teaching experience

A key part of the program is the supervised student-teaching placement. Candidates engage in classroom placements where they gradually assume responsibility for teaching under the supervision of qualified educators. These practical experiences enable students to apply theoretical knowledge in real educational environments while honing effective teaching skills.
